What's the name of your new single? Well
the new record which is “Forever Girl” is like a buzz record.
We have not actually put the single out yet. So “Forever Girl” is a teaser? Yea,
it’s just out there to get a buzz reaction. When is your album set to drop? We
were looking at a late summer drop but now since we don’t know how long its
going to take the other single to catch a buzz, it could be the top of next season. What’s the name of the single that you guys are looking to put
out? We are in between two of them right now. One of them is called “Closer” or maybe we might do one with a Timberland or Pharell to see if they got one that will knock out “Closer”. “Closer” was done by some new guys called Drumer Boys. Drum Squad Productions is out of Memphis, TN. Besides you being a singer, aren't you also a producer and
songwriter for other artist? Yea
I’ve been doing production for the last two or three years. I have been writing for a minute but as far as production
wise, I just kind of started. I’ve
been playing the keyboard and drums since about 8th grade.
When your album comes out, will you have any production done by you
on there? Yea,
if not two, I will have one. I
really don’t want two on there since this is the first album.
I do want that one track just to say that I can do it.
I want space for other producers that are already established.
I just don’t want two on my album because you can only put certain
songs on an album because of political points.
I will be cool with one cause I know that I have one specific one but I
do have four records that could possibly make the album.
Who are some
the producers that you’re working with on this album? We
got B.Cox, Jazza Pha, TheCornaBoyz, Traxx Stars, Kev, Druma Boy, Adonis. It’s
a team of them. We know that your signed to Blackground/Universal but tell me a little about your record label and some of the artist that you have signed to you? I
have my own label called Q and A Productions.
If you have a question, I’ve got the answers. I have two rap artist sign to me. One of them is name Semy out of Colli Park. The other is C
Wells who is also out of Colli Park. I’m
from Colli Park and I’m just trying to bring up my peoples.
How difficult is it to balance being a producer, have a label and at the same time trying to get yourself out as an artist? Aww
man (laugh). It’s real ridiculous.
Because of my schedule I really don’t have time to sleep.
If I’m in the studio and I’m cutting a song, right when I’m
don’t with that, I might have to go to another studio to cut a song for one
of my artist or go to another writing session.
It’s really difficult as for as time wise because you get less sleep
but because of the love that I have for the music as a whole, its worth it.
I heard you mention writing sessions. Does that consist of you writing for other people or just going in to write for yourself? Other
people. If you say writing
session, that you means most likely your going to writing for somebody else.
Who have you written for in the past? Usher’s
group, One Chance, Lea from the Lil Flip “Sunshine” video, Tank.
I can’t even think right now but its been a lot.
It’s a lot of new artist that I’ve written for.
Who are some artist that you listened to growing up that influenced
you? Donny
Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye. I
really love old music. When
growing up my house was filled with Donny Hathaway and Marvin Gaye so that’s
what I listened to growing up. My
dad also played the guitar and the piano, so I picked that up from him.
I also listen to gospel from people like Donnie McKirkland.
I grew up listening to old music.
A lot of people that hear you say that you sound like Deron
from 112. What do you have to say about that? (Laugh)
That’s my cousin. We actually
found that out probably three years ago.
We really haven’t been around each other.
I speak to his mother more then him.
She has tried to get us up a few times but we just haven’t had the
time. |
