Where
are each of you girls from? Danah:
I was born and raised in Chicago but I’ve lived in Atlanta for 10 years now
but my family is still in Chicago. Kayla:
I was born in Tennessee. I kind
of moved around a lot to Connecticut, California, Georgia, Alabama and now
I’m back in Georgia. Shannon:
I
was born and raised in Washington D.C. I’ve
been in Georgia for about 4 years now. How
did you guys end up forming the group? Kayla:
Actually
we were all in the studio working on solo projects and we all knew Chris Hicks
who is head of Beatfactory and also an A&R at Warner Brothers. He introduced us and wanted to know if we were interested in
forming a group. We were at least
willing to get into the studio and work together. I think what solidified it was the fact that we got in the
studio and came up with a lot of good stuff, so everything pretty much meshed
and that’s how we started. How
did you guys come up with the name Bella? Danah
came up with the name. Danah:
Once I meet the girls and really got to know them and vibe and after our first
argument, I was like oh yea Bella. We have to go through things as sisters just to know that
we’re able to work through anything. Bella
means beautiful in Italian. Once
I meet the girls, everybody had their on little vibe and Bella sounded really sexy.
Are you guys pushing the "Never Be Me" track featuring Rick Ross or the "Caught Up" song with Jody Breeze? “Never
Be Me” There was a video that was shoot recently that had you guys and Jody Breeze in it. Was that a Bella video or a Jody Breeze video shoot? That
was a video for his album. Jody
calls himself Bell Breeze. We
love Jody. Big shout out to Jody.
When
is the album set to release? Danah: We had a couple of dates but we don’t know the expect date so we don’t want to say the wrong date. Kayla:
We are going for ads on August 8th. Danah:
So the single should be in rotation August 8th. How did you guys end up doing a mixtape with Don Cannon of the Aphilliates when he usually only host rap mixtapes.? That’s
our pooh pooh Cannon. (laugh) Kayla:
Don is like a close friend of ours.
He loves our music and he thinks we’re dope so he actually brought
the idea to us. He was like he
would love to do it with us and we named it The First Boss Baby Edition Shannon:
It wasn’t hard to do the mix tape because I rap.
It was fun to bridge the two together.
We also have a fusion going on with our music and it was hot to do a
mixtape. Danah:
We are the first R&B girl group to do a mix tape.
This mixtape is our second mixtape.
Our first mix tape was with J-Nice and the Hittmen DJs so actually this
is our second mixtape but kind of like our first official one.
All the songs on this mixtape are original songs. We wanted to set
ourselves as the first R&B group to do a mixtape and now everyone wants to
do a mix tape. Kayla:
This is our mini album. We put
out an album before the actually album has come out.
We did all our interludes, arranged all our songs, and put the flow to
it with the help of Cannon. Who
are some of the producers that you guys have worked with you?
Kayla:
We have Bryan Cox, Jazza, 1500, Keith, Flash, Swizz Beatz, Corna Boyz, Teddy
Bishop, and Kendrick Dean. Do you girls have a lot of people maybe comparing you to a TLC since you have two singers and a rapper in the group and if so, how does it feel? Shannon:
It’s a blessing to be compared to TLC and we will also be compared to them
because of the structure. But we
have an edge because we are a lot sexier. Danah:
We’re a lot sexier. We’re
real grown and sexy on this album. TLC
were more pop then anything and we’re staying more to our R&B roots.
Shannon raps real sexy and sometimes she can be real gutta and
sometimes she can be real cool. She is like a chameleon; she can do whatever so I think that
opens the door for a lot of things. We
can do all types of music. Kayla:
Because of Shannon we even rap/sing a little and she brings different
stuff in us. The hip hop and
r&b thing is so fuse together. It’s
a whole new thing. It can’t be
compared to nothing. Another
thing that we do that TLC didn’t do is that we write all our own stuff, we
arrange it, and we sing it. Shannon:
We also learned to use the equipment. Most of this mixtape we recorded ourself.
How did you hook
up with B.Cox? Danah: We were introduced to Bryan through Chris actually. B.Cox was working over at Doppler Studios and Chris said that he wanted us to get in and work with Bryan. We did some tracks and they came out really hot and we really like working with him. Plus Chris and Bryan have a company called Beatfactory. Everyone knows that the production team over at Beatfactory is one of the hottest production teams in the game right now.. Do guys have feel that now they are being exposed more to magazines and television that more pressure is on your shoulders? Kayla: I say NO.. We bring our best to the table every time before all of this we were doing what we do. We give our 100% everyday. It’s no more pressure then everyone else. |
